Is This Your Child?

Maybe something feels off, big emotions, new behaviors, a change your child can't quite explain. Kids don't always have the words for what's going on inside them, and that's exactly what play therapy is built for.

What This Often Looks Like

  • Big emotional reactions that seem hard to explain
  • Behavior changes after a life transition, divorce, a move, a loss
  • Anxiety, clinginess, or trouble with big feelings
  • A gut feeling that your child needs support putting words to what they're carrying

How We Work Together

Play is a child's first language. Humans are preverbal long before we're verbal, and play is the earliest way we learn to express what we feel. In sessions, I follow your child's lead and use toys and play as a way to understand what's happening beneath the surface, then help them build the language and tools to express it. My approach is attachment based, which means I also pay close attention to the relationships in your child's life, because feeling safely connected is often at the root of real change. I meet with parents regularly too, so you're never left guessing what's happening in session or how to support your child at home.

What You Can Expect

Sessions are relaxed, child led, and genuinely playful, not clinical or intimidating. I work with children ages 3 and up. Many parents notice their child:

  • Has an easier time naming and expressing feelings
  • Shows fewer or shorter emotional outbursts
  • Feels more connected and secure at home
  • Seems, in their parents' words, more like themselves

Getting Started

  • Step 1: Free Consultation. We'll talk about what you're noticing in your child and see if play therapy feels like the right fit.
  • Step 2: Parent Intake Session. I meet with you first, without your child present, to understand their history and what's going on.
  • Step 3: Ongoing Play Therapy. Your child settles into regular sessions, with check-ins to keep you informed along the way.

Taking the First Step

Reaching out for your child is one of the most caring things you can do. If you're not sure play therapy is the right fit, that's exactly what the free consultation is for.

Common Questions

A few things people usually want to know before reaching out. If you don't see your question here, feel free to ask during your free consultation.

What age range do you work with for play therapy?

I work with children ages 3 and up. Play therapy is especially effective for younger kids who don't yet have the verbal skills to fully express what they're feeling.

Is play therapy just playing, or is it actually therapeutic?

It's genuinely clinical work. Play is how children naturally process and express emotion, so through play, I help your child work through what's underneath their struggles, not just distract from them.

Will I be involved in my child's therapy?

Yes. I meet with parents regularly to share what I'm noticing and offer practical ways to support your child at home. You're an essential part of this process.

How do I know if my child needs play therapy?

If your gut is telling you something feels off, whether it's big emotions, a change in behavior, or a difficult life transition, that instinct is worth exploring. A free consultation can help you figure out if play therapy is the right next step.

Do you offer play therapy in person, virtually, or both?

Play therapy is offered in person at Connect to Thrive in Plano, TX, where I have a dedicated space and toys for sessions.
