Is This Your Family?

Maybe conflict has become the default way your family communicates. Maybe a teen has pulled away, or a younger child's behavior has the whole household on edge. Maybe a big transition, divorce, a move, a loss, has shifted how everyone relates to each other, and no one's quite found their footing since. Family therapy is a place to slow down and actually understand what's happening between you, not just manage the symptoms of it.

What This Often Looks Like

  • Frequent conflict or communication breakdowns at home
  • A teen or child who's pulled away or is acting out
  • Struggling to adjust after a major family transition
  • Feeling like everyone in the house is on a different page

How We Work Together

My approach is relational and person centered, which means I pay close attention to the patterns between family members, not just individual behavior. I bring myself honestly into sessions, and I don't avoid the hard conversations, because real change usually means naming what's actually happening, gently but directly. Depending on your family's needs, sessions might include everyone together, or a mix of family and individual time, especially when working with parents and teens.

What You Can Expect

Sessions are collaborative, and every family member's experience gets space. Many families find they begin to:

  • Communicate with less conflict and more understanding
  • Feel more connected as a unit
  • Understand what's actually driving tension, not just its surface symptoms
  • Move through big transitions together, instead of separately

Common Questions

A few things people usually want to know before reaching out. If you don't see your question here, feel free to ask during your free consultation.

Do all family members need to attend every session?

Not necessarily. Depending on what's going on, we might meet as a full family, or work with parents and a teen separately at times. We'll figure out what structure fits your family best.

We're dealing with a teenager who won't talk to us. Can family therapy still help?

Yes, this is common, and often the first goal is just creating a space where communication feels safer for everyone, including your teen.

Is this different from your play therapy or individual teen therapy?

Yes. Play therapy and individual teen therapy focus on the child or teen alone. Family therapy focuses on the relationships and patterns between family members directly.

What ages of kids is family therapy appropriate for?

This work fits families with young children as well as families with teens, the approach adjusts depending on the ages and needs involved.

Our family isn't in a crisis, we just feel disconnected. Is that reason enough to come in?

Definitely. You don't need a crisis to benefit from family therapy. Feeling disconnected is one of the most common and valid reasons families reach out.
